Minneola, FL April 25, 2014 – The Building Blocks Job Skills Class takes a tour of the Citrus Tower Publix Bakery Department. Greg, a bakery department employee, gave the clients and staff members a 30 minute tour of the department.
When the clients first arrived they received a hair net and learned about the operations and attire for the bakery department. They also learned that the bakery department became a part of Publix Super Market in 1957. Greg showed the clients where they decorate their cakes. He also showed the clients the huge mixer where the dough is made. He then showed them how to run the dough through a roller machine and cut into pieces. Greg gave each client a piece of dough so they could feel the texture.
Greg showed the clients the ovens where all the fresh cookies and bread are made each day. He allowed the clients to place frosting and sprinkles on a cupcake to see how this is done. At the end of the tour, he presented each client with a cookie to decorate and then have as a treat.
